Enjoying Wolf IP Scanner? A review on the Mac App Store helps us a lot.
Leave a ReviewWhy doesn't the app use ICMP ping?
ping command) requires raw sockets. Instead, the app uses TCP connect timing — connecting to open ports and measuring round-trip time — which provides an equivalent latency measurement without requiring special privileges.
Why can't I see MAC addresses?
arp command or raw network sockets, neither of which is permitted in the App Sandbox. MAC address discovery is therefore not available in the Mac App Store version of Wolf IP Scanner.
How does Traceroute work in the app?
The scan doesn't find some devices on my network. Why?
- They have no open TCP ports (Wolf IP Scanner detects hosts via TCP, not ICMP).
- A firewall is blocking all inbound connections to the device.
- The device uses a power-saving mode that closes all ports when idle.
- The IP range you scanned doesn't include the device's address.
How do I scan a range other than my local subnet?
10.0.0.0/24) or a start–end range (e.g. 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.50). Wolf IP Scanner will scan only the addresses you specify.
What SNMP community string should I use?
public, which works for most unconfigured routers and switches. If your device has a custom community string, enter it in the Community field in the SNMP panel before querying. Wolf IP Scanner supports SNMP v2c only.
Can I automate scans?
How do I export scan results?
Does Wolf IP Scanner collect any personal data?
Data collection: Wolf IP Scanner collects no personal data whatsoever. No account is required. No information is sent to our servers or any third party.
Network access: The app connects only to IP addresses and hosts you explicitly ask it to scan. All connections are outbound and initiated by you.
Local storage: Tags, port history, and scheduled scan preferences are stored locally on your Mac using UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device.
Notifications: If you enable scheduled scans, the app uses macOS User Notifications to alert you of network changes. Notification permission can be revoked at any time in System Settings › Notifications.
